Sea of Thieves could set sail for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch Microsoft has reportedly looked into bringing its excellent Xbox multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.Sean Carey Published 09 Jan 2024 FollowtopicsSea of ThievesXbox Game StudiosOnline MultiplayerOnline Co-opRumourFirst Person ShooterSean Carey Following rumors that Hi-Fi Rush could soon release on Nintendo Switch, there are now rumblings that Xbox exclusive Sea of Thieves could sail on over to PlayStation and Switch. Speaking on the Game Mess Podcast, insider Jeff Grubb claimed that Microsoft might be bringing Sea of Thieves to other platforms. "Sea of Thieves, I'll say I've heard that that was one that might be coming to other platforms," Grubb said. "When I first started hearing these rumors, I was like, this is probably about Sea of Thieves because I've heard that could come to Switch and PlayStation."This was followed by another report from former Axios reporter Stephen Totilo, who said in his industry newsletter, Game File, that he'd heard a similar story. According to Totilo, a "source familiar with plans for the port told" him that Microsoft has looked into launching Sea of Thieves on PlayStation. However, Totilo says he hasn't heard anything about a possible Switch version of Sea of Thieves and that he has been unable to verify if Sea of Thieves coming to PlayStation is still an active plan for Microsoft. It's important to note here that these reports suggest that Microsoft has only been exploring the idea so far, and until we hear of something concrete, it's worth taking these rumors with a pinch of salt. If Microsoft does decide to bring Sea of Thieves to other platforms, though, it not only would inject new life into the now six-year-old game, but it could also open the door to other Xbox exclusives releasing on PlayStation and Switch, which would likely go down like a lead balloon with the most ardent of Xbox fans.
